Principal's Update 12-18-16

This past week brought extremely cold weather upon us, however that did not stop our parent volunteers!  A very big thank you to those who volunteered to come in this past Thursday/Friday to support our efforts to offer an alternative to having indoor recess in the classroom.  Students were able to play with hula hoops, balls and the rope swing in the gym, dance, color, build lego's and play games in the library and music rooms.  Overall, the feedback was entirely positive from both parents and students!   We look forward to continuing to welcome parents in to support this effort throughout the winter months!

Best of luck:  to Mrs. Mirarchi, who has taught as an instructional aide in Grafton for 15 years!  This past week, Mrs. Mirarchi enjoyed time with her kindergarten students before ending the week to set off to her next adventure- retirement!  Mrs. Mirarchi provided support to so many students and teachers over the years and we are so grateful for all that she has done to support learning and support NGES!

Welcome Mrs. Viens to to our NGES school community! Mrs. Viens, will begin as an instructional aide in the kindergarten this coming week.  We look forward to learning with and from Mrs. Viens!

Visiting Chef: after the break, we will have a visiting chef in our cafeteria for a day.  The chef will be making a cranberry-orange bread.  The bread will be made available for all students to try, regardless of whether the student purchased lunch that day.  Ingredients, which are nut free,  and the date will be shared in the next update.  If, due to allergies, you would prefer your child not try the bread, please contact the office to share your request.

Acts of Kindness: At our last all-school meeting, we discussed a “Kindness Challenge” for students and staff.  Anytime a student/teacher/adult at school is caught being kind, we are trying to catch it on camera and will be sharing a slideshow of the many ways we are kind to each other at NGES at our January all-school.  This will coincide with Ooch returning to NGES to present to students on just how far a little kindness goes! If you “catch kindness” at home or at an out of school activity and have a picture to share, please send it along to flynnjy@grafton.k12.ma.us with the subject line: kindness

Box Tops: Contest number 2 is underway!  Please collect and send them in!!  Box Tops are an easy way to support our schools! Keep on clipping!

Word of the week: Our word of the week is patient. We will introduce the word on Monday morning and then continue to discuss and use it throughout the week.  We encourage you to use talk about it at home as well!
