Homeless Education

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (reauthorized in 2015 by Title IX, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act), states that children and youth who lack “a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence” will be considered homeless, have rights under the Act, and are eligible for certain services.  These include;

  • The right to immediate school enrollment even when records are not present or immediately available.

  • The right to remain in the school of origin, if in the student's best interest.

  • The right to receive transportation to and from the school of origin.

  • The right to receive support for academic success.  (provided by the U.S. Department of Education).

If you think a family member or someone you know may qualify for services under the McKinney-Vento Assistance Act, please contact the Local Homeless Liaison for the Grafton Public Schools.
