Emergency Preparedness

The Grafton Public School District is prepared for any and all emergency scenarios.  Our Standard Response Protocol is designed by the "I Love You Guys" foundation.  The protocol utilizes variations of four responses to any threats to student safety.  These respones include lockout, lockdown, evacuation, and taking shelter.  The protocol is effective because it utilizes common vocabulary and easily understandable actions in the event of an emergency. 

Grafton Public School staff have been trained on the Standard Response Protocol, and the responses are practiced with staff and students throughout the school year.  The Grafton Police Department continues to play an active role on the ongoing training of staff. In conjunction with the use of the Standard Response Protocol is the use of ALICE.

ALICE is a standardized response to an active shooter situation.  ALICE is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate.  ALICE is widely utilized throughout the nation.  Grafton Police have been trained on this response system and have provided training to the staff of the Grafton Public Schools.  The ALICE system ties directly to our use of the Standard Response Protocol.

Thanks to the support of the town our schools are safe and secure.  We utilize swipe access to enter locked exterior doors and have IP cameras throughout each building to provide police and emergency crews with real time access to video in case of emergency.  Each room is also equipped with "go-kits" that include materials to be used in emergency situations.
